Profile of Dr Maria Marco-Martin

Dr. Maria Marco was born in Madrid, Spain, and obtained her Bachelor degree in Chemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1999. After spending a year as a graduate trainee at GlaxoWellcome in Madrid, she moved to London to carry out her Ph.D. on the development of novel synthetic methodologies for metal-mediated organic synthesis under Dr. Nicholas Leadbeater's supervision. On completion of her Ph.D., she started working at GlaxoSmithKline in Madrid searching for new antimalarial treatments. In 2011 she moved to the Kinetoplastids DPU, where she has been involved in collaborations with Drugs for Neglected Disease Initiative and projects in collaboration with Dundee university looking for new antileishmanials and antichagasic agents.
