Profile of Greg de Boer
During the last few years I have completed an MEng/BEng and am have recently submitted my PhD thesis at the School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds. The focus of my research is using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to model fluid flows including fluid flows in data centres, lubricant flows in mechanical bearings, and airflows around transonic aircraft wings.
Since May 2014 I have been a research assistant to Dr Jon Summers as part of the Pan European Data Centre Academy (PEDCA). The aim of this project is to develop an action plan of recommendations for the data centre industry based on training, business management, skills and technology. The main part of my role has been to develop simulations of both air and liquid cooling in data centres, this work has helped to better understand the effectiveness and efficiency of the mechanisms by which heat can be transferred.
