Profile of Prof Uwemedimo Ekpo
I am a Professor of Parasitology and Epidemiology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, My area of research expertise is parasite epidemiology and control, focusing on schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, and onchocerciasis with an interest in disease mapping and modelling. I won two prestigious post-doctoral training fellowships from the European Foundation Initiative for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases (EFIND) from 2009-2015 funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, Germany
Over the years, I have served at national and international levels, providing technical expertise to the World Health Organization and World Bank. I am currently a member of WHO/TAGSS and WHO/AFRO RPRG respectively. My current research is in schistosome hybridization and One Health, vector control and Health Education. I am a management board member of the African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases. I am also the co-editor of parasite epidemiology and Control, Associate editor with PLoS NTD and BMC Infectious Diseases journals. I am a Fellow and Global Assessor for the Royal Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and a member of the British Society for Parasitology.
