Female and male genital schistosomiasis (FGS, MGS) is a major public health problem in Cameroon, where the presence of Schistosoma haematobium and S. mansoni eggs in the reproductive tract can lead to reproductive dysfunction and significant health problems. Despite the high prevalence of S. haematobium and S. mansoni infections, the magnitude of FGS and MGS is still unknown in Cameroon. Only a few studies have been conducted so far. The results revealed a significant proportion of FGS in the communities studied and highlighted the urgent need for in-depth investigations and interventions. The presentation will highlight and discuss some of the key findings, the need for large-scale studies on FGS and MGS, and the control challenges in Cameroon.
