Uzbekistan emits around 205 million tons of CO2 annually, with 5.6 tons per capita, largely due to its energy sector, responsible for 89.4% of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions. The construction sector contributes 45% of total CO2 emissions, driven by population growth and traditional housing practices. Between 2010 and 2023, the population grew by 28.7%, leading to increased housing demand. Sustainable construction, including low-tech earthen dwellings, offers a solution to reduce emissions while meeting housing needs, emphasizing local materials and traditional building techniques. Transitioning to these methods can reduce carbon intensity, supporting Uzbekistan’s climate goals.
