Scholars have long understood the role that scientists played in the Cold War, both as important participants in the creation of heavily-militarized superpowers and as “dissident” agents working to promote human rights and international scholarly collaboration. This paper focuses on popular science and science fiction as fields that built mutual cultural desires for peace and de-escalation in the Cold War in both the Soviet Union and the United States.
