Discussion

The World Congress is an important time to celebrate the life and work of colleagues who have died in the interval since the last  Congress . 2021 had a grim harvest, which also included John Morison, a main organiser of the 4th World Congress in Harrogate.

Here we propose to reflect on the inventive and profound works of Anatoly Vishnevsky who died of COVID-19 complications in January 2021.  A giant of world demography and an observor of the problems of Russia, the USSR and the broader contex,t his loss was deeply felt, and his ideas need to live on .

We  hope  and expect to find other scholars available to apper in person at this event.

Reference to Vishnevsky's impact, for the programme committee, can be found for example at FIRST DEMOGRAPHIC READINGS IN MEMORY OF ANATOLY VISHNEVSKY "Demographic horizons of Russia and the world in the medium and long term prospective"

Ined - Institut national d’études démographiques gives the external view of his impact.
