Discussion

One of the most widespread myths is related to the ideology of the older Russian nation and the "younger brothers" nations, adopted from the times of the Russian Empire and dominant in the USSR (its modification is the concept of the triune Russian nation). At the linguocultural level, it is connected with myths about the two beginnings of the literary Ukrainian language, dated to around the 14th century and the end of the 18th-beginning of the 19th century. It is based on the term "Old Russian" "drevnerusskij literaturnyj jazyk", which has been in use since the 19th century, and which, based on a false analogy (the Ruthenian language of ancient Rusyn writers: ruski/ruskij jazyk vs. the modern name of the Russian language: russkij jazyk), was appropriated by Russian science as identical with the ancient Russian language. This provides an additional pseudoscientific basis for the thesis about the continuity of the development of the Russian language since the time of Vladimir and Kievan Rus.
