The Ukrainian nativity scene is a reflection of the reality of socio-political, religious, social-household, cultural, artistic and other aspects of modern realities.
Looking back at the events since February 24, 2022 and the role of the nativity scene in society and its actualization, one can trace the formation of new images of the nativity scene that reflect socio-political events in Ukraine.
In the nativity plays of 2022, 2023 and 2024, new images of heroes and anti-heroes appear.
Heroes: in the form of angels - soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and volunteers, the wise men - hetmans of Ukraine Mazepa, Khmelnytskyi, Sagaidachnyi.
Anti-heroes: in the role of Herod - Putin, Herod's warriors - Orcs, Buryats.
During the period of active hostilities on the territory of Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war of 2022-2024, the artistic practice of representing the Ukrainian nativity scene changed into new forms:
