Discussion

The presentation will focus on constant tension between a) Soviet women emancipation, inspired by the communism ideals of equality and pushed forward by the practical need of women in the labor force b) the reality of Soviet family lives, where such problems as psychological and even physical violence was not uncommon, women were drained in work and family responsibilities, lacked healthy work-life balance and attention from their spouses and domestic partners in making these tasks easier. The presentation is based on various sources such as archival material (criminal files, other court documents), interviews.
