The article presents a case study about a participatory project addressing the housing crisis in Budapest. Using the the photo voice method the research focuses on a large-scale social housing complex and involves residents, social workers, as well as decision-makers to create common visions about the future of that specific rented house owned by the city of Budapest and action plans to realize it.
The photovoice method enables policy makers to better understand the needs of disempowered groups. The co-designed pilot project focuses on enabling people in need of affordable housing to propose project proposals in frame of the existing local Participatory Budgeting processes.
With a strong focus on socioeconomic factors that affect people’s capabilities to participate results will contribute to better understanding how participatory practices emerge, interact and change in relation to a situated context.
