Discussion

This research examines how Russia, China and the Global South navigate the future world respectively and together, challenges and limitations of this alliance and what the new global order looks like. Russia, China, and the Global South are collectively working to shift the balance of power toward a multipolar world. Through multilateral organizations, financial alternatives, military and security alliances, and diplomatic support, they are challenging Western dominance and promoting a global order that better reflects the priorities of non-Western nations.

Russia is navigating the world order through a combination of military assertiveness, energy diplomacy, strategic alliances, and efforts to reshape global governance structures in ways that challenge the influence of Western powers, particularly the US and the EU. Russia is navigating the world order by adopting a reactive, assertive, and often confrontational stance, seeking to exploit divisions among Western allies, bolster ties with non-Western nations, and challenge the dominance of Western-led institutions. However, sustaining this approach in the face of economic challenges and potential overreach will require significant adaptability and resilience.

China’s approach to the world order is characterized by a long-term vision that emphasizes self-reliance, strategic partnerships, and an expanding role in global governance. It seeks to establish a multipolar world where it can act as a counterweight to the U.S. and shape international norms to reflect its priorities. China is navigating the world order with the ambition of being recognized as a great power, capable of shaping global rules and securing its interests both regionally and globally. However, its success depends on balancing competition with cooperation and addressing concerns from other nations about its rise.

Many Global South countries are moving beyond traditional Western alliances, expanding partnerships with non-Western powers like China, Russia, and regional powers such as India, Turkey, and Brazil. By engaging with multiple countries, they reduce their reliance on the West, gaining more freedom in their foreign policies and economic decisions. The Global South increasingly calls for a multipolar world order where power is distributed across various regions and not concentrated in Western powers. This vision aligns with their goal of greater autonomy and influence in global decision-making processes, allowing them to advocate for their interests without being subject to a single dominant bloc. While challenges remain, the Global South’s strategies reflect a deepening commitment to a multipolar world that values their autonomy, development priorities, and cultural identities. As they continue to navigate global complexities, the Global South’s influence is likely to grow, reshaping global governance in ways that reflect diverse perspectives and address issues relevant to a wider range of nations.
