The paper looks at the collection of publications from the Belarusian DP camp in Watenstedt, dated between 1947 and 1949 and preserved at the Skaryna Library in London. In the context of the displacement and social and economic hardship faced by Belarusian exiles in DP camps, their efforts to preserve their cultural identity led to the establishment of social organisations, schools, theatre and other cultural and religious initiatives, including publishing. The Skaryna Library Watenstedt collection includes school textbooks, folk tales, poetry, plays and short stories by well-known Belarusian writers as well as translations and original work written in the camp. Most of these titles were produced using basic equipment, typewriters and a mimeograph, yet many include illustrations and occasional use of colour. The paper examines the selection of titles, style, function, and provenance of these publications, with particular attention to personal stories behind them, dedications, inscriptions and other details that offer insight into the life and activities of the community. The collection is an important resource for studying the exiled Belarusian community post-World War II and a testimony to its resilience.
