In the school year of 2022/2023 a new subject was introduced “The History and the Present” (in Polish “Historia i teraźniejszość”, henceforth HiT). This was met with significant social interest and uproar, on both sides of the Polish political spectrum. This subject was introduced by the Minister of Education representing an extreme right party “Law and Justice” and from the start it was presented as a modern and patriotic education. The HiT was short lived and was removed from the curriculum after the 2023 election when “Law and Justice” lost power. The aim of the proposed paper is to present and analyze a parliamentary debate on “The History and The Present” using The Corpus of the Parliamentary Debate. The analysis will concentrate on arguments presented by all political parties and will present mechanisms of how education can be influenced by the politics.
