Discussion

The concept of CATASTROPHE is to be analysed in terms of its semantics and functioning. The study identifies the specificity of lexicographic interpretations of the core lexeme "catastrophe" and models the semantic field of the concept. The frequency of usage of the lexeme is traced using the General Regionally Annotated Corpus of the Ukrainian Language (GRAC) and parallel corpora. Verbal representations of the concept of CATASTROPHE are identified in contemporary media discourse, focusing on the narrative of the "war in Ukraine," which includes an analysis of the lexemes "war", "crisis", "conflict", "aggression" and "invasion." A conceptual field is constructed based on the primary verbal manifestations of the concept of CATASTROPHE in media discourse, considering collocations and the overall context. The study is conducted using materials in Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, English, and German. Keywords: concept, concept sphere, modelling, media discourse, catastrophe.
