This presentation will examine the profound effects of recent disruptions in academic relations between Russian and Western law schools and academic institutions on law schools in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Specifically, it will address how the severed academic ties between Russian and Western law schools have reshaped the regional landscape, with both Russian and Western institutions now increasingly seeking partnerships with law schools in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The reconfiguration of these academic alliances has prompted new opportunities for legal education and scholarship in the region of Central Asia and the Caucasus. These changes bring critical questions to the forefront: How will these evolving partnerships impact post-socialist legal frameworks, and what does this shift mean for the region’s legal education and practice? This presentation will offer an analysis of these dynamics and consider the implications for the future of post-socialist law in the region with reference to the practice of the law schools.
