At the beginning of the 20th century, Vilnius' intellectual environment occupied a special place in the development of national historiographies. At that time, the concepts of “native history” were created by the intellectual elite of different national group, i.e. Poles, Lithuanians and Belarusians. The Russian imperial authorities observed these processes and tried to create their own historical response. The presentation will present the theoretical and methodological search for national historiographies, answer the question of how national self-esteem was represented through historical narrative, what challenges were encountered, and how the created images of the past were used in the struggle between national groups and in the fight against the historical narrative of the imperial power.
