Discussion

This study examines the reception of Uzeyir Hajibeyov’s operas and operettas in Tsarist Armenian newspapers, particularly focusing on the article "Azerbaijani Opera" published in the Tiflis newspaper "Surhandagh" The article highlights the successful staging of Hajibeyov’s opera "Sheikh Sana ";in Baku in 1909, emphasizing the diverse audience it attracted and the cultural renaissance occurring in Azerbaijan. The author, Atrpet, acknowledges the blending of Eastern and Western musical traditions in Hajibeyov's work while expressing a preference for Azerbaijani contributions over those of Armenians in the arts.
