This roundtable will discuss the issue of precarity within higher education and its implications for the production of knowledge about Central and Eastern Europe, as the region(s) experience a period of profound change and upheaval. This discussion will consider precarity as both a set of structures which (re)produce inequalities – with precarious work disproportionately impacting immigrants, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and ethnic minorities – but also as a pervasive atmosphere/dominating culture, and what this means for the ways that knowledge is produced, legitimised, and engaged with. The session will provide a platform for participants (and attendees) to share their experiences, discuss the broader implications of these conditions for the academic community, and collaboratively envision pathways toward a more equitable and sustainable academic environment.
