The presentation of a pilot project to compare characteristics of the text ('written') media genres functioning in languages representing all branches of the Slavic language area - West Slavic (Polish from the Lechitic group, Czech from the Czech-Slovak group), South Slavic (Bulgarian), and East Slavic (Russian). The study has an interdisciplinary character as it covers not only by linguistics but also by at least media studies, and within it – by genre studies. There are analysis of similarities and differences in the actual genre palette of media texts for all above-mentioned languages in their corresponding present-day media systems. This study is based on collections of media texts from each of languages compiled by author, as well as on studying and comparing genre approaches in different countries.
