Discussion

How do we balance research outputs, research quality, and outputs during times of war and conflict? In this paper, I consider the challenges involved in collecting, analysing, and disseminating data quickly and robustly during times of war and conflict. Drawing on literature from researching in other conflict zones, I encourage scholars of Russia and Eastern Europe to consider ways for us to more robustly, rigorously, and ethically research the war. Doing so, as I argue, is not only theoretically and empirically important, but has immense policy implications for the war's outcome and the people of Ukraine.
