The Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Aesthetics “Prometey” (“Prometheus”) stands as a remarkable regional testament to the era of the Soviet thaw. It emerged from the unlikely fusion of a technical institute, specifically the Kazan Aviation Institute. This establishment not only resurrected but also reinvigorated the names and ideas of the progressive Soviet 1920s, epitomizing the spirit of "Prometheus" since its inception. Over the decades, it has navigated a complex and often perilous relationship with official state attitudes, frequently putting its very existence in jeopardy.

One of the prominent figures synonymous with "Prometheus" is Bulat Galeyev, one of its founders. He was a forward-thinker who actively explored global trends in light, sound experiments, and video art, making pioneering contributions to the field. Another integral figure in the institute's creation and continued existence was Bulat Galeev's colleague and later wife, Irina Vanechkina. Her role cannot be understated, especially in preserving the institute's legacy after her husband's passing.

Throughout its history, the Prometey Research Institute weathered numerous challenging episodes, including confrontations with the formidable KGB. At one point, it came perilously close to disappearing. However, it owes its survival to the unwavering determination and resilience of Irina Vanechkina and another key individual within the Prometey Research Institute, Anastasia Maximova.
