How does Russia’s war against Ukraine affect migrant population from Russia in a variety of European and South Caucasian states? Emerging Russian political diasporas, their challenges and perspectives are still an under-researched field. Based on a newly established international Research network “Emerging Russian Diasporas and Anti-War Movements”, the roundtable aims to provide empirical insights and different methodological views on the study of Russian diaspora and migrants’ anti-war activism, the ways of its mobilisation in Europe and in the South Caucasus. Practices of transnational political engagement deserve particular attention. How have the conditions of “voice through exit” changed due to the war-related authoritarian shifts in Russia? To what extent is the concept of conflict-generated diaspora applicable to recent migrants from Russia? What are the dynamics of mobilization of non-state actors against the rising ethnic and imperial nationalisms in Russia? Is the impetus for activism still present, after the initial war-caused shock is over? What are the perspectives for professionalisation and institutionalisation of diasporic engagement? What role do relations with host societies, international organisations and other migrant communities play in the mobilization of anti-war movements?
