In my paper I will share findings from my ongoing research on Polish new photography and its references to what we could broadly understand under the umbrella term "the earthly". What are the connections of photo shooting with the Earth – understood broadly from the planetary perspective – but also with the ground, soil, and dust? How and where is photography grounded? What can it unearth? I will propose some close readings of selected photographs and photo series in the context of the new topographies and the critical landscape trends. Those would lead to an attempt to outline the most poignant documentary and creative practices in the framework of culture-oriented soil studies.
