This paper demonstrates that although the importance of the Church’s contribution to the secular ideology of Putinism is undisputable, it should not be exaggerated, and there is even a mounting trend towards disillusionment of the Russian political mainstream in the Church as an ultimate ideological authority. With this reservation, the article considers the Church’s theory of justice and the concept of “necessary war” with the focus on the post-2022 conceptual developments, by means of which the Russian Orthodox Church is trying to remain relevant as a major supplier of the ideological production for the Russian political regime.
