The University of Oxford has one of the most ambitious sustainability strategies in the UK higher education sector to be net zero carbon, and have a net gain in biodiversity by 2035. Laboratories account for almost 55% of the electricity and gas usage across the campus, and also account for a large proportion of the Universities indirect emissions through consumable purchase and delivery. The sustainable laboratory programme encourages labs to sign up to the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF), and the central sustainability team provide resources to support the submissions. The University also has a broad carbon reduction programme that covers the install of renewable technology, replacement of inefficient plant equipment among others. This talk will cover the sustainability strategy in detail, and what the University of Oxford is doing now and has planned for the next 5-10 years in order to achieve its goal
