Over the last decade, historical memory has become an important theme in Russian fiction, including the revolution, civil war, famine, collectivisation, Stalinist repression, in a word collective traumas that still shape the structure and functioning of Russian society today. A growing number of Russian graphic novels also aim to deal with historical traumas, using a specific language and reception that is different from prose. The presentation will examine Olga Lavrentyeva's ’Survilo’, a work depicting the siege of Leningrad, in the light of the medium-specific characteristics of the graphic novel.
