Discussion

Wars. Migrations and forced displacements. Epidemics. These dramatic experiences which have occurred an infinite number of times in the history of mankind, define the last decade of Ukrainian history. In his presentation, Dmytro Yesypenko will consider several works by contemporary writers who reinterpret images and plots from Ukrainian and world literary classics and folklore while creating a narrative of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war (2014-...). Plague, cholera, and Covid-19 appear in the texts of Serhii Zhadan, Tamara Duda, Serhii Martyniuk, and Artem Chekh as both very real diseases and metaphors, signs of the most turbulent period in modern European history.
