This paper is about solidarity as a social practice as it was practiced and understood by production workers in socialist factories. I examine solidarity through memories of work experiences, interactions in factories, formal and informal work organization, and the meaning of a socialist textile factory in local communities. The paper is based on the memories of textile workers in Slovenia, especially in relation to their work experiences. My aim is to extend the study of solidarity beyond political institutions and ideologies (normative solidarity) and examine it in everyday relationships (but in relation to power) as understood and practiced in the factory, but also in relation to other areas of workers' lives: family, household, neighbors, friends, local communities.
