Discussion

The roundtable's speakers will explore the Soviet Union’s relations with their allies and how the Cold War was perceived on the peripheries. The discussions will focus on the role played by medium and small countries and by various regions in shaping Cold War events (1945-1991) that can illuminate current theoretical debates about international and domestic politics and help provide recommendations to policymakers about how to prevent and manage conflicts in the post-Cold War era.

The main topics of the roundtable are “Polish and Bulgarian Intelligence Activities against Turkey in the Second Cold War” by Ksenia Wesolowska, "The Romanian Years of the Cominform" by Corina Snitar, and "Lessons and Legacies of the Cold War in the New Cold War" by Andrea Peto, with an introduction to the roundtable's theme by Mark Kramer.
