This ad hoc roundtable is organised in the light of the ongoing war in Ukraine and Russian army taking the Chernobyl zone as a hostage. The roundtable will explore the multi-layered meanings of the Chernobyl disaster site and the way in which they are transformed in the context of war. The focus includes: the spatial political imaginaries, the everyday perceptions of (im)materiality of radioactivity, the emerging notion of difficult cultural heritage, and the gendered strategies of coping with insecurities around Chernobyl
