Discussion

This study examines economic disruption in the hotel industry of two countries: Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The Hotel industry depends on human mobility and close contact between clients and employees (Jones and Comfort, 2020) because of that it was one of the hardest-hit industries with significant revenue losses during the Covid-19 disaster. According to Flynn (2021) improved economic disaster plans aid business recovery and there is a need for more widespread efforts to improve business recovery planning on the part of. According to IURG (2019) almost 55% of Ukrainian hotel businesses do not have a recovery plan in case of a crisis. It is estimated that the hospitality sector in the UK lost £30bn in 2020 (McAllister, 2021) and Ukraine lost 60bl UAH (Forbes UA). The hotel industry represents 10% of employment, 6% of businesses and 5% of GDP (Feldin, 2020) in the UK and a similar amount in Ukraine. Liu et al. (2021) and Jones and Comfort (2020) emphasize the role of government in these recovery and sustainable development strategies. The paper compares how Ukrainian and British political mentality affects the economy in the hotel industry. Pilot interviews have explored responses to Covid-19 within the hotel sector. This includes whether they have a recovery plan and what is included in it, and what assistance they have received from government. Identify the different attitude in the UK and Ukraine and specific needs of hotel industry in each country.
