The development of the national style in the architecture of Poles, Balts and Finno-Ugric people in the context of the Russian Empire rules in the 19th century
With the beginning of the 19th century, in architecture has appeared new processes, which can be called the development of national style. This aesthetic phenomenon appeared not only in the architecture of the great empires, but also developed in parallel in countries under the rule of political powers. The Russian Empire in 19th century and the smaller nationalities under its rule, such as Finns, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians or also Poles are the perfect examples of this phenomenon. Also, all the above countries have a common determinant, which is the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.
During reflection under the difficult history of their statehood, national style begins to clarify itself as one of the most important elements in building and developing awareness as well as national identity. Therefore, it is necessary to consider in what type of architectural realizations the national style of these countries could develop and from what sources it drew not only inspiration but also impulses for further development. Appears also the question, about the schemes in the development of their national styles and about the Baltic Sea influence. Finally it is possible to move on to the subject of research methodology. It is based on two the most common ways of research: seeing an architectural/artistic object as a complete piece, or it should be broken down into basic factors and structures which help place them in the right historical and artistic context.
