Alla Sariban was one of the members of the women’s club and a contributing author to the samizdat magazine ‘Maria’, a dissident almanac dedicated to the Soviet women’s issues. This presentation focuses on Sariban’s diaries, which she wrote from the age of fifteen (19 notebooks in total). It highlights the formative process of a unique procedural subjectivity, the ‘self’ of a late Soviet woman. I set out how the Bolshevik project of the female self gradually changed, as reflected in the diary entries. This change resulted in a new kind of female subjectivity associated with ideas of feminism and emancipation that differed from earlier Soviet ideals.
