Discussion

Environment-focused scholarship in humanities and social sciences  is a slowly emerging field in the countries of the former Soviet Union, where the focus remains on environmental history and top-down perspective with interest in the Soviet past and its state ecological politics. In this roundtable five scholars draw on their research in the fields of cultural studies, visual cultures, anthropology, and sociology in order to reflect on this emergent field and to expand the scope of studies of environments in the region.
