The round table brings together scholars based on both sides of the Atlantic’s working on the queer past and present and strives to explore the potential for generating (publicities) for queer archives, with a special focus on media, print media and arts. It is dedicated to showcasing an already established queer archives and emerging special collections in the post-Soviet and Eastern European space. The round table also raises several questions starting with the definition of the archive and queer archive, including the dilemmas of systematisation/normativity and (digital) surveillance. How can the diversity of queer histories be made visible in digitized times and in semi-authoritarian settings? How can these archives flash out different perspectives on queer history in the post/Soviet space and beyond? In what way can they address marginalization of the LGBTQ+ community? And most importantly how can we draw attention to the dilemmas of queer material archiving? What are the ways of enabling closer collaboration between scholars and artists involved in queer archiving and foster transnational connections?
P. Gleissner (queer publishing in the Soviet 1990s), K. Suverina (resistance to the institutionalisation of queer data), A. Kondakov (open access legal data in Russia), T. Klepikova (the archivability of queer theater in Russia), B. Warkocki (Polish queer literary archive) and G.Miazhevich (an archive of post-Soviet media).
