Discussion

As elsewhere, neoliberal feminism in Russia is characterized by the intersection of the capitalist imperative of profit maximization and (post)feminist emancipatory ideologemes, such as female empowerment, sexual freedom and sisterhood, which results in the production of a specific understanding of the political and the development of highly individualized techniques of self-management. "Wonderzine" in the eight years of its existence has become one of the most visible and successful pro-feminist online media outleit n Russia, skillfully combining in its published materials the promotion of bodypositivity with advertisement of brand new cosmetics, and channeling feminist oppositional standing into consumption driven practices. Russia’s military invasion in Ukraine on February 24th radically transformed Russian mediascape, creating completely new reality for media-proffecionals to deal with. In my paper, I will analyze the discursive strategies Wonderzine has used in the social network VKontakte to communicate to its female readers about the war in Ukraine and war-related events.
