The first trade union established by Ukrainians working in Poland was funded in 2016 in Katowice. This trade union has been suppoeted by The All-Poland Alliance of Trade Unions (OPZZ) - the largest nationwide umbrella confederation of trade unions in Poland. The Ukrainian trade union is not a well known organization, although in total there are over 1 million Ukrainians working in Poland. This presentation will concentrate on decription of activities undertaken by the union members based on inteveiws and the analysis of the social media. This will allow to describe not only the Union as an organization, but also a personal stories, individual choices, which led to an organized workers’ activism. This presentation will seek to answer questions about the origins of the organization and activism as well as the forms of protests and promotion among workers. It will also discuss whether the separate trade union of Ukrainians, the only nation-specific union, may be the best solution for fighting for workers’ rights and if it does not deepen the Ukrainian workers segregation in the work place.
