The paper discusses post-heroic heroism in the popular cultures of the South Slavic regions today. The partisan spirit of collective self-sacrifice, historically emerging from the Yugoslav liberation struggle founding myth after WWII, transformed into an individualized form of resentment obligation. In my paper I will explore this new partisan spirit of protest and resistance in referring to cartoon drawings by Midhat Kapetanovic, to graphic novels by Samira Kentric, to contemporary performance art and popular literature. The new hero is clearly inspired by the historic partisan struggle, yet situated in a much broader East European and also global context, the causes addressed ranging from post-socialist transformation to climate change.
