Discussion

Abstract This study reports the presence of different Bulinus species in ungoggo part of Jakara dam. Jakara dam is located in Minjibir local government area of Kano state, Nigeria. The snails were taken to the laboratory and exposed to artificial light to stimulate cercarial shedding after washing and placed individually in compartmented petridishes. Twelve different species of Bulinus were encountered of which four were shedding different types of furcocercus cercaria. The different cercariae were viewed and recorded from a camera microscope attached to a computer through a USB.
This part of the dam serves for fishing and crops farming during the rainy and dry season so there is water contact activities at one time or the other during the year. People also cross to neighbouring villages by boat. The water body was covered with water hyacinth during the rainy season. This water body also serve as source of drinking water for cattle and other animals. The implication of this is discussed.
