The recent resolution revolution in cryo-EM has fundamentally changed its utility as a tool in modern structural biology, and therefore opened up new possibilities in drug discovery. I will describe the basic methodologies, and explain how improved resolution has been achieved. I will also illustrate what is currently achievable, using examples from projects in structural virology and anti-microbial resistance, and highlight the potential for further improvements.
