A significant challenge in proteomic studies of tumourstroma interactions is to determine the celloforigin of proteins in multicellular environments. To decipher intercellular communication in the tumour microenvironment, we develop and apply technologies that can label the proteome of specific cell populations in multicellular settings, including cell type-specific proteome labelling using amino acid precursors (CTAP). This talk will illustrate and discuss new genomic and proteomic approaches to investigate cell-cell communication in cancer and examples of applications will be related to the importance of understanding how stromal cells and immune cells are involved in cancer development and response to therapy.
