Ion channels are difficult targets for small molecule drugs due to conserved binding domains and ion filters, however this hasn’t stopped them being exciting targets. This challenge has led to waves of ion channel research when new ideas open up the field from previous dead ends. Once again global pharmaceutical scientists are turning their spotlight on these challenging targets and the opportunities they present.
