Abstract
Chemical biology is a field of research where small molecules are used to study and precisely manipulate biological processes. Chemical biology research capitalizes on the unique characteristics of small molecules for investigating and modulating biological systems. One primary focus of this discipline is to identify new high-quality tools to manipulate proteins or other target molecules to mitigate disease. These can potentially serve as starting points for drug discovery when combined with rigorous validation of disease associations. Another research area leveraging chemical biology is the systematic profiling of small molecule libraries across disease models. Such systems biology approaches can uncover biological mechanisms fundamental to health and disease. The data generated using this approach can drive unbiased discovery, leading to data-driven chemical biology. Thus, chemical biology is a crucial driver of scientific knowledge and integral to Sweden's thriving Life Science landscape.
